X-Plane 11 Flight Model – Updates Across the Sim
X-Plane 11 Flight Model updates are a major step forward for the realism and flight characteristics of X Plane with the 11.40 release. This a wide range of items that certainly effect your aircraft and in some situations your flight simulator safety.
Stalls and wing drops are something that are much more realistic along with wake from aircraft and storm wind effects. Lets go through the changes.

It also considers the difference in air speed from the prop to when it strikes the vertical tail causing the tail to swing. This is very pronounced on on tail wheel aircraft. This should make them more realistic as power is applied and reduces. Its the time taken from the air to leave the prop till it hits the tail. its only small but it makes it more realistic.

Decay Wash
This is the air going over the main wing and then traveling to hit the top of the horizontal stabilizer. There is a delay between the air moving over the wing and hitting the tail plane. This was instantaneous previously so not there is a slight delay as the air travels from the wing to the tail plane as changes in attitude are made. Pitching up and down will make changes to the airflow and the subsequent reaction.
A Pilots Perspective for the new flight model
In this video I wanted to show you what this new X-Plane 11 download of 11.40 offers in the sim.
I wanted to give you my perspective on what it means to you as a flight simulator pilot. The real thing it does is takes away a lot of the roughness of the aerodynamics in X Plane 11 and make it smooth and predictable.
This is something that Austin Myers has been getting from a lot of X-Plane 11 pilots. He has taken a lot of time and reprogrammed the sim with REAL WORLD aerodynamic reports.
Its a great step forward. 11.40 is currently early Beta 1 so maybe if you want it go to Austin Myers .COM and download it. You have to select the experimental flight model setting to have it work in the settings. This is on the first page of the X Plane 11 Settings. Tick the box and follow the directions to install it.
Again I would recommend most people be patient and wait for it to be released as a full Beta through the UPDATE not go and download it just yet. Its possible there are bugs that could affect your system so download it at your own risk.
Austin Meyers is the creator of this latest X-Plane 11 download and update and is the driving force behind the Blade Theory that the flight simulator. The major difference between other current simulators and X Plane 11 is the way the flight model is programmed.
FSX and Prepar3d us a system using a table that calculates generally a single surface and determines the reaction to a control movement by the pilot or weather variables like wind. Its generally seen a a fair process and gives a good result.
X Plane 11 uses the whole aircraft and a model that measures the wind over every part of the aircraft in something like a virtual wind tunnel so it can react to all facets of the aircraft and weather environmental effects like wind and wind shear etc. In this Video a very passionate Austin explains the latest improvements to X Plane 11’s flight model parameters.
I hope you found this interesting. I certainly am always amazed when flying X Plane 11 and its realism. With the expanding of the aerodynamics sets this flight simulator apart from all others at the moment.
Enjoy what ever simulator you have but I highly recommend checking out the X Plane 11 Demo for free and see what you think.
