Virtual Reality & IR Tracking A NEW World to DISCOVER

Virtual Reality & Head Tracking

Virtual reality & head tracking have finally come to fruition for gamers. The variety and quality of VR headsets is just growing enormously with the recent additions it is really hard to pick the correct one.

You can start at the budget end with the Google cardboard versions and a plethora of mobile phone based units which with a few apps you can play all games on.

You can play games as well as watch YouTube videos and movies in VR with these units. These can still be a lot of fun.

OCULUS RIFT S

The OCULUS Rift S is one of the early release virtual reality headsets. This unit used a single panel for its display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 which I have found quite good since I have the Rift S personally. The inbuilt tracking is pretty good in even low light conditions I have found in the 12 months I have been good. The two supplied hand controllers work well with there array of controls which are pretty easy to use. The battery life on these is usually a couple weeks.

Oculus has continued to update the drivers and these have bought considerable improvement to the visual quality for sure over time. The screen door effect often spoken about is something I don’t notice at all and this has improved over time with the updates which are still regular.

FOr the price I would certianly consider an Oculus Rift S but there are some newer models now available which will most likely give you a better experience but at a higher price point. Value for money is still very good in my opinion.

OCULUS QUEST

The Oculus Quest started as a lower cost option and delivers a per eye resolution of 1832*1920 which is close to 4k in a combined total of pixel resolution. This is about 50% more than the original Quest.

The unit allows for wireless gaming and a lot of freedom. Oculus not also offer an option to connect the Oculus Quest to a PC via the OCULUS LINK and associated software. This has proven super popular with a lot of gamers who now get to play their favorite PC games in VR.

The PIMAX

The Pimax 5K and 8K are the widest displays currently available in the virtual reality market. They offer field of view out to 200 degrees.

The 5K version offers duel 2860*1440 per eye or 5140*1440 display resolution in total.  This resolution delivers amazing quality visuals for your VR gameplay.

The 8K model delivers 3840*2160 per eye resolution with a 8K – 110 Hz – 200 Degrees for crisp graphics and smooth gaming performance.

These units are leading edge and proven to be very popular with gamers.

VR Headset Options

The Virtual Reality (VR) market is growing and updating all the time so here is a group of the latest offerings from Amazon.com. You can check by clicking the VR headsets below to get the latest prices on offer by Amazon.com.

Head Tracking – Controls your View

If your not ready for virtual reality or it has made you feel unwell then there are still other great options. The Track IR system is widely revered by gamers of many genres for its ease of setup and precision.

This system uses a clip with IR reflectors which you normally attach to a hat and a small unit sits on your monitor and this works out the tracking information. This then moves the view as you move your head.

It has been the go to solution for many years for everyone. It is extremely good option if you don’t want to go to VR at this point.

There is also FacetrackNOIR which uses your Webcam to track your face. It is substantially cheaper but it is not as good either but again if your on a budget you can get pretty good results with some limitations.

I have used it when it was free but the program has a small cost now so its an option for many. I have used it and I found it pretty good generally.

Head Tracking is a great option!

FacetrackNOIR

Facetracknoir is a great option for you if your on a tight budget. For only a few dollars you fan use your webcam as a face detection unit and use this to look around in game. Facetracknoir gives you 6 degrees of movement so its very flexible and works well. I have used it for years playing flight sims and car racing games. If your looking for something to bring immersion to a game then this option is a real game changer.
