The best joystick for PC gaming and flight simulator is either a choice of joysticks, Yokes & HOTAS systems so you can get the best experience. The choice is yours fellow pilots but I recommenced at lease one or the other. If you one of the many flying with a mouse and keyboard there are some pretty inexpensive options for you here. You can use them on your laptop as well.
Deciding on a great option for either your best choice for a joystick for PC is personal. It depends on what sim you enjoy flying, so think about what your going to spend most of your time flying. If its combat then the HOTAS choices are the ones to consider. If you need to then take some time to save for the best one. They will last you many years so make sure your happy.

I currently have the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro and I am very happy with it. It has a trigger plus 11 buttons, twist grip and a thumb 8 way switch for views or trims as you like. It is solid and I am enjoying using it..

A great choice of joystick for PC systems are right here at your fingertips. I have used both the older Thrustmaster units which were amazing but today they are much better being mostly metal construction as are the throttle quadrants. I have worked on real military aircraft for over 20 years including the F-18, F-111, Mirage 111O and more so I know what they should feel like. The Thrustmaster quality is unmatched by the flight sticks I have seen.
The Extreme 3D is also a great entry joystick and my current choice. I have found it precise and solid in construction. It feel like a quality stick in your hand. The range of buttons make it easy to program for most important functions as well the smooth operation of the throttle. Having a separate throttle would certainly be a step forward though then the throttle could be used for another function like a trim wheel.
