Default Aircraft – GA Plus Military

If you are looking for some new great X Plane 11 freeware aircraft then X Plane 11 free addons are plentiful. There are some fantastic freeware aircraft that were previously available as payware like the Aerobask Robin and Lisa which are listed below.

Aerobask is a great producer of both payware and freeware X Plane 11 aircraft. They have gifted the community a number of high quality freeware aircraft like the French designed single engine Robin 401, four place aircraft. This is an aircraft you should definitely add to your virtual hangar.

The aircraft is tremendous fun to fly and comes with great quality cockpit textures and flight model. Included with the aircraft is the Garmin G1000 avionics package to make this aircraft feel ultra modern.

We also have been given the Lisa Akoya seaplane for X Plane 11. This fantastic sea Plane will get you out to enjoy the waterways and back blocks of the sim. This gives you some amazing flexibility.

Its great to have the option to land on a fixed runway or a lake or sea runway so be adventurous and head bush. I have personally made a few videos in the Lisa Akoya and they were a lot of fun. Check out the Lisa Akoya as well as the Robin 401 on LetsFlyVFR You tube Channel for more.

X Plane 11 Best Freeware Aircraft

I think we should look at the amazing planes for X Plane 11 that are in the default hanger.
The X Plane best freeware aircraft are the ones that come included and have the best detail and performance to get you started. We have a selection for all budding pilots.

If your into airliners we have the Boeing 747 and 737 to take your passengers anywhere they desire. Need a city flight and to drop a passenger on a helipad then there are some fantastic  helicopters to challenge your flying skills. They are truly a challenge to master so don’t expect it to be all done in five minutes. They will challenge you.

The Barron 58

The Barron 58 is one of the X plane 11 best freeware aircraft. It comes with great textures and sound which helps immerse you in the whole flying experience. There are also a wide range of gliders, general aviation plus military aircraft included with X Plane 11.

The Barron 58 has featured in a few of my own videos and I hope I get the opportunity to include it in more on Lets Fly VFR.
In the real world you would likely start in the Cessna 172 as you venture into aviation taking your first steps.

Barron 58 External X Plane 11 Freeware

It is the same in any flight simulator, you must learn to crawl, then walk before you can run in an airliner of a jet fighter.
The amazing thing about the X Plane 11 flight model is the whole aircraft airflow calculations that are made in real time. This is where it stands apart from other simulators with its absolute realism.

Aerobask Robin – DR4 – Garmin 1000 suite

The Aerobask is a fantastic low wing aircraft. The aircraft comes with the Garmin 1000 suite which gives it a really modern feel.
Getting to grips with the avionics is not to difficult but be patient. New comers to X Plane 11 and no doubt Prepar3d plus FSX and now MSFS 2020 also have the Garmin included on several aircraft.

The Aerobask Robin is great in the handling department being easy to taxi with its nose wheel steering. The flight characteristics are pretty good with smooth controls making take off and landing a realistic challenge for new comers and experienced simmers alike.

Its realistic stall characteristics are something I enjoy pushing to the limit. The latest 11.40 Beta made the overall characteristics of aircraft even more realistic making them often but not always drop a wing when stalling.

Aerobask Robin 401 Free X Plane 11 Aircraft

It is very impressive aircraft especially offered as freeware. Aerobatics are a lot of fun with barrel rolls and loops not to hard but be cautious because it will spin if you get it wrong. Maybe check out my spin recovery video for guidance.

The Stinson Sentinel

The Stinson Sentinel is a fantastic X Plane 11 freeware aircraft for learning how to handle a tail wheel aircraft. It is such a fun plane to fly plus it will challenge you from when the wheels start moving till they stop. There isn’t a moment this plane does not keep you on your toes. I would highly recommend having some rudder pedals to make the most of this feisty beast.

Why is it such a hand full you may ask. If you are asking you may never have flown a realistic tail wheel aircraft. They require your attention to keep the straight during taxi as well as when you add the power. It will get away from you very quickly if you don’t keep the joystick back in your lap till you gain some airspeed.

Once you have airspeed your rudder will become effective and you can then steer with it. This is where good flight controls and having a good joystick or Yoke combined with the essential rudder pedals you will be dancing on fling this great aircraft.

We get two engine options with these two separate models. One a full FADEC Diesel option and a traditional Lycoming option. The aircraft have great handling characteristics with good climb and cruise speeds. Generally a gentle stall with a slight sing drop as you stall so be careful.

The aircraft models also can do spins in X Plane 11 and I have seen a few crazy ones done online. Easy to recover with standard procedures to recover.

Avro Lancaster B Mk3 1.1

The Avro Lancaster is a classic WWII bomber. If your dreams including flying deep into enemy territory at night then download this pretty good model and go on your own missions.

Flying first in 1941 it along with the Boeing B-17 took the bombing campaign day and night to the enemy of the time.

This is a great external model but the internal model is a bit disappointing with the normal view setup not available and the general internals need more work to match the external model.

Download via the text link in the title or the graphic. Log in to XPlane.org and get flying. (Freeware)

It was responsible for training thousands of pilots. It was powered by the 130 HP Gypsy Major engine which proved quite reliable for a training aircraft.

Stearman Aircraft – Bi Plane Fun

The X Plane 11 – Stearman is a fun plane to fly for sure. VR it looks really great with its big bi plane wings and large fuselage.
It is a big plane with duel cockpits where the passengers sit in the front.

The textures look great with new shiny Dacron looking wings and fuselage that shimmer in the sun light. There are also a long list of additional skins on Xplane.org available. There are a lot of passionate creators that obviously like this model.

The flight model I found is very slow in roll with pitch being good. This is a big  fun biplane that should give you hours of entertainment.

The Stearman model 75 is a 1930-1940’s military trainer built in the United States and pretty good numbers at over 10,000. It has a 107 knot top speed so ts no speed demon. Give it a go. I know you’ll enjoy it.

Wingspan: 9.81 m

Top speed: 200 km/h

Number built: 10,620+

The Zlín Z-142

The Zilin is an interesting and well put together aircraft available FREE on X Plane .org listed in the best 100 of the year. Flying it in VR it is very well detailed has a fully functional cockpit. The external model looks fantastic from both outside and internally.

The performance of this aircraft is very interesting with its 150 hp engine, two stage flaps its performance is really quite smart.

Its roll as well as elevator authority are snappy for sure as is the stall characteristics. Its fun to do aerobatics in and has a solid spin recovery as well as good stall characteristics.

Available across X Plane 11 plus there are models available for P3D and FSX it appears. Looking for a fun download in a 2 seat great performance aircraft then this may be the one for you.

The Hawker Hurricane – WWII Legend

The Hawker Hurricane Mk2 A is another fun aircraft you can fly from X Plane.org.

This model also includes working guns and is a big challenge just moving around the tarmac. The tail wheel aircraft will make you stand up and take notice so be ready on the rudders.

In the air the excitement begins so be prepared to have the full on grin once you put this one through its paces.

Pushing the throttle forward to feel the power of the Rolls-Royce Merlin XX 12 cylinder engine with its nimble 32.2 long fuselage and 40 ft wingspan this legend could reach 340 mph.

It had a great 600 nm range and with it’s armament was effective especially against bombers with 4 * 20 mm Hispano Mk 2 cannons in the wings and the option of a pair of 250 or 500lb bombs.

Fly this legend to feel what it was like back in WW2
