Eagle Dynamics Release – Free Marianas Map

Its an exiting day when the DCS World Marianas Map releases a new Mariana Map for FREE! This is a big thankyou from Eagle Dynamics to the community for their continued support to us the lovers of DCS World and its products.

The DCS World Marianas map is the latest FREE map included with DCS 2.7 and Steam. The map covers a large an expanse of water and a number of items. The new map is a great opportunity to conduct naval activities with such a large expanse of water with a number of islands. The Mariana’s map cover a very expansive 1500 x 1500 Kilometers. Plenty of area to hide ships, aircraft carriers to carry your ground troops with combined arms a very real area to conduct ground operations as well.

Modern Air and Ground Forces Operations

The DCS World Marianas map contains a number of separate islands which house airbases to allow RED and BLUE bases to be established. This will make multi player combat on a server an amazing amount of fun I am sure.

The map house actual USAF airbases like Anderson AFB on Guam and would be ideal for operations between Russian, Chinese and allied forces. There is also a number of assets packs that may prove to be a great addition like the Chinese asset pack.

DCS World Marianas Map WWII Combat Operations

IF your a history buff then the significance of the Marianas Island will probably be known to you. Have you ever heard of the Mariana’s Turkey shoot which was a short period on one day where the US NAVY took the Japanese’s Air Force to task and shot down a huge number of aircraft.

Scenarios like this are the type of battles that can be reenacted on this beautiful Freeware Map by Eagle Dynamics. Also remember the option of DCS Combined arms to integrate ground combat between tanks, artillery as well as troops. The possibilities here are only limited by your imagination.

WW2 History or the Marianas Island Conflict.

Combat operations on the Marianas Islands were part of operation Forager and were conducted between June and November 1944. The USA forces numbered 128,000 troops and over 600 ships of various sizes. The Japanese forces numbered 71,000 troops.

The 5th Fleet comprised of 15 carriers, t battleships, 11 cruisers, 86 destroyers and over 900 aircraft. The Saipan, Tinian and Guam battles all lasted about 2 weeks but the battles for Peleliu and Angaur were both longer affairs at 2 months.

Guam – Marianas Island

Guam is an island with a lot of recent history especially through world war II where it was the sight of some major battles. The island is some 30 miles (48Km) long and 11 miles (17Km) at its widest point.

Today the Island comprises a main town of Tumen which houses the Antonio B Won Pat International Airport centrally on the island with an additional two airports in the northern corner of the island.

Andersen Air force base located on the north eastern corner of the island houses the 36th Wing assigned to the eleventh air force. This base was originally called North Field during WWII. Anderson Air Base comprises a wide array of Bombers, fighters, Interceptors.

It houses the latest and greatest in the USAF’s air power with F-22, F-35 and F16 squadrons. These are supported by drone aircraft and recon aircraft plus air defense with the TALAD system located on the island.

The two airports appear to be operational with a third airport seen at the north of the island which may be attached to Anderson Air force base.
Certainly an island with a lot of recent military history.

How to Get the DCS World Marianas Map

The Marianas Map like all maps can be downloaded from the MODULES Section on the top menu in DCS World. The map is free so if you go there you will be prompted to download and install the Marianas Map. The download is not huge so wont take a lot of time and when you are finished you can go test the new amazing Marianas Islands map out. There are airports and the USAF air base on Guam and on most island there are also more airports to launch operations.

With the size of the islands you can commence wars between friends and not spend half your time in transit. Load up a ME109 or a P51 Mustang and get turning and burning. Remember the assets pack can also be used to populate the islands with more aircraft and ground installations in the editor. There are already plenty of objects and systems to deploy around the island including AAA guns and missile systems as well as troops and ground vehicles.

DCS Maps

DCS has a number of really great maps to conduct your flight and ground operations. The default map is the Caucuses map which encompasses a large area of the Baltics with flat plains, mountains to discover. Fly low level over the trees in the forests and between the mountain valleys en-route to your target.

Expanding on the map options are a number of paid modules such as the Nevada map where you can experience TOP GUN style training scenarios in the mountains and bare valleys of the Nevada desert including Area 51. If your focus is more WWII then the Normandy map is another great map to experience to European Theatre of operations.

There is also a channel map which adds to the Normandy map giving you UK and European options for battles in the sky in your favorite aircraft. Heading back towards the Middle East there is a fantastic Syria map including the Golan heights and much more for some classic 6 day war scenarios. There’s a lot to enjoy and growing all the time.
