DCS World VR Crashes After Latest Update: Blank Black Screen & What’s Going On?

This issue is hitting me personally after the recent DCS World update and I’m not alone. Many VR users are reporting similar problems. Here’s a breakdown of what changed in the update, what’s happening to players using VR, and whether Eagle Dynamics has responded yet.
I have tried deleting old CACHE with no effect. It actually worked for about 45 minutes then crashed hard while getting my but kicked by an awesome pilot on DCS Dogfighters!
🔄 What the Latest Update Changed

According to the patch notes and community reports, the recent update introduced:
- Module improvements and fixes
- Terrain engine and performance tweaks
- UI and mission editor stability improvements
- Voice chat updates
- Various bug fixes across aircraft and systems
However, nothing in the notes mentioned VR stability regressions. Yet since release, multiple players have run into VR crashes, freezes, or most commonly a blank black screen after loading, right when the VR mirror should appear.
🥽 What’s Happening to VR Users

Reports from forums, Reddit, and social media highlight these issues:
- After DCS loads, the VR headset shows only a blank black screen while the desktop mirror sometimes still displays the menu or loading scene.
- Crashes to desktop occur for some users when launching missions in VR (both SP & MP).
- Forcing VR via command line flags (
--force_OpenXR
,--force_enable_VR
) can worsen the issue. Removing the flags sometimes helps. - Mods and third-party add-ons appear to conflict with the update, causing additional instability.
- Updating or mismatched GPU drivers, headset runtimes (OpenXR, Virtual Desktop, Oculus, SteamVR), and shader caches may also play a role.
For me personally, I get a blank VR screen right after the loading bar finishes, at the exact point where normally the VR mirror window opens.
📣 Has Eagle Dynamics Responded?

So far, Eagle Dynamics has not posted a specific acknowledgement of the VR blank screen bug in their public changelogs or announcements. Previous patches have addressed VR instabilities in the past, so it’s likely they are aware.
Given the volume of reports, it’s reasonable to expect a hotfix or patch to address VR crashes soon.
We need to be a bit patient as Eagle Dynamics will have to work out what the issue is and write a patch! Hopefully it’s not TWO WEEKS – 🙂
🔧 What You Can Try Right Now
Until a patch is released, here are some steps users have found helpful:
- Remove mods or disable unofficial add-ons.
- Launch without forced VR flags to see if stability improves.
- Repair DCS World via the game’s repair/cleanup tool.
- Update GPU drivers and VR runtime software (OpenXR, Oculus, SteamVR, WMR, etc.).
- Test simpler missions/maps before loading heavier content.
- If available, revert to a previous stable version until a fix is confirmed.
I’ll Update you here at LETSFLYVFR.com once a Patch is Released and it works!
🛠️ Expectation: Patch Coming Soon?
While frustrating, these sorts of regressions usually get patched quickly once enough players report them. With so many VR simmers unable to use the game properly, I’d expect Eagle Dynamics to issue a hotfix relatively soon.
In the meantime, keep an eye on the official forums and patch notes, and share your logs so the devs can reproduce the problem faster.

✈️ Until then, fly safe or at least, fly in 2D until VR is fixed! Be comforted by the knowledge YOUR NOT ALONE!
